ON HOLD!

This is one of the great basses from the infancy of the 'boutique bass' era. Made in an era when everything was made by hand, including pickups and hardware and only one or two instruments may have been produced each week! This bass has solid maple body wings with mild figuring and a 3-piece flame maple neck thru body design. The rosewood fretboard has 22 frets with dot inlays. This is one of the sexiest basses ever created and the lines just flow ad infinitum; even the headstock is a thing of beauty.

The weakest link in V-C basses were the hand-made pickups. They were a cool 'chiclet' design but were sealed with epoxy which tended to shrink, crack and affect the tone and integrity. This one sports early mods (quite possibly done at the factory or at least soon after it was built) that include Hi-A pickups with walnut surrounds, (3) mini-toggles for coil taps and out-of-phase a pickup switch and two volumes and two tones. The control cavity is old-school all the way and sealed in thick copper shielding tape along with the hand-signed serial number emblem.  In any case, the Hi-A pickups are a sonic improvement and they should be... they were made by Bill Bartolini in his garage workshop years before he put his own name on them!

Only a few hundred V-C basses were built and I used to get at least 5 or 6 a year in the early days of the shop. This one has chrome hardware, Schaller tuners and the original hard case! It's art, it's history and it's a bass worthy of a fine collection.
